It has occurred to me recently that one thing not often talked about in at least some of the tribebooks are the traditions of the homelands of the tribes. Some are easier to know for us Westerners than others. We just finished off St. Patrick's Day... a lot of people know about Brigid and knotwork and kilts and bagpipes and might even be able to sing you an Irish tune. People typically have a little actual knowledge (even excluding stupid stereotypes) about some American Indian culture. Nordic? Yeah, people can typically give you a little working knowledge of them too.But the cultural traditions of the Middle East, even with everything going on today... (or especially with, maybe), is typically not known, I don't think. I learned a lot while I was taking my history of the Middle East class that I didn't know... things that are basic knowledge there. So this whole post is just a post to say that it could be kinda cool to do a traditions section. It wouldn't have to be big or anything, but something that could give people a bit of insight into what could be considered a rather alien culture. The thing that really sparked me off on this was the sudden dawning on me that, hey, wait, of all things, *belly dancing* would be the traditional Gaian dance for the women. Belly dancing. That really does just amuse me, and probably more than it really should. But it would be, and I don't think most people would even think of that. Yeah, the Gaians are spread out and obviously incorporate many different cultures into their tribe depending on where they are, but often, even when you step into another country and live there for generations, you take what you like of that tradition and mold it with your own. Add that in with the fact that a lot of Gaians, I'm sure, would still strive to hold onto their roots even if just a little, and well, it's important to know the traditions of their homeland. So there's my current contribution. Belly Dancing. =P Gaian belly dancer outfits? No wonder they get along with the Fianna, right? ::grins::
I've been peeking at this effort over the past couple weeks as I try to dust off the gaming centers in my own brain and get a W:tA chronicle started with my group. I remembered that A) both CoG tribebooks sucked donkey gentalia, and B) you guys had this collaborative effort back in the day.Sure enough, this has been insanely helpful to me, as well as horrendously nostalgiac. I can't believe it's been a good 4-5 years already since the "Good Old Days" of the forums. Wow.Anyway, just wanted to throw out a thanks to Becky and Julia for having done this, and keeping the resources alive on the interwebs for people like myself to use in the future. Seriously, you guys rock!~EEE~
::pokes this community so it doesn't like... die::Gods, that would suck.
I really really did!I started this with the Wyrm a long time ago. But I finished the Triat today:( The TriatCollapse )
No, I haven't written anything. I really really need to. But I've been in a graphics mood lately... and so I redid the webpage!... again. But I really like how it looks this time! I was making the header and thought it would fit here really well!I also put the image for border I like best back up. I really like the totems like that.Okay! So there it is!I'll slink out now!Oh! And I notice someone's been helpful and did the tags thing!YaY for Juju!
So! I had to post this here!Gayle and I just finished listening to a song that, awhile back I attributed to the BSDs cause it just fits. Or at least I think it does. She said that I should post the lyrics here, and I'm doing that because I find it amusing. Now you're thinking "What? A song attributed to the BSDs that's amusing?! How does that work?"Well here's how it works. It's not a bad song. It's completely and totally kid safe. It's a country song. You just have to know about the BSDs and how they work to be able to tie it to them. Some lyrics especially fit, and considering what the song is intended to be about, well, it's really funny that it fits so well with the BSDs. Go figure. Now that I probably have hold of your curiosity, here's the song under a cut. Even the name of the song should spark curiosity!( RepentCollapse )
::wanders in through waist-high dust::Heh. I think we need some cleaning.I must work on the last two pieces of my Fifty Years history section so I can have it done. I'm so close! I know what I'm writing for them! I must do it.::clears dust and cobwebs, damnit!::I'm almost done with this quarter at school. Soooo close.
It's time for me to write another part of the history before I break down and write the page paper I have to write. thankfully, due to Valentine's Day, one of my teachers put off a paper an extra day so I don't have to worry about that until tomorrow or Wednesday. I like her so much.So without further ado, I give you the portion of history that we happened to go over today in my British history class...I give you the Black Death.( Rat's VengeanceCollapse )
Haha! Let me know what you guys think!( Losing the Stars + Take the Blows + Stand Your Ground + We. Will. Win.Collapse )
More history! I feel so happy to get some of this done! YaY!( Taking the BlowsCollapse )Whew! That ended up longer than I expected!
Okay, I don't have it with me, so I might make a mistake or two, but I don't think I will. Here's hoping! ::grins::The Russian Genocide - FinishedStereotypes Abound (The 60's to early 70's with a bit on hippyism)The Weaver goes Wild (The early 70's through the present really, focusing on how fast technology's pace has picked up)The Rise and Fall of Shadows in Russia - FinishedLosing the Stars - FinishedTake the Blows (The Abolishing of the Camps)Hold Your Ground (The Rising Troubles in Garou Relations Worldwide)We. Will. Win. (The Future and the Coming War)There! Again, tell me what you think. Now I must run to class cause I'm late, and again, if you think of anything to add, have at it! I've been looking for a little more in this section, though they tend to be pretty short!
Okay, so I need to decide where to go with my earlier history bit for the rest of it! ::grins:: I figured it might help to throw out possible sections...So faaaaar...The Rise of RomeThe Fall of the White HowlersThe Fall of Rome and the Rise of CatholicismThe Unicorn Massacre... are set in stone as the first four categories.Possibilites running through my head include:The Black Death - I don't have the second edition Ratkin book, but this would could possibly be the point when the Ratkin finally snapped. It's well known that the Bubonic Plague was spread by rats, after all. Considering it killed off a quarter of Europe's population, it would have undoubtedly hit a lot of kinfolk. The Garou would have probably heard at least rumors about it being Ratkin, and the Bone Gnawers, at least, probably would have known, which would cause problems there too considering the Totem... Garou would be very angry... Ratkin finally snapped... Makes for not good times. The Renaissance - This, of course, has to be a section. There isn't any way around it. And I think I can make it into one section rather than splitting it up like the Middle Ages. Unless you can think of something special that would have happened at that time to get it's own section.Turtle's Sacrifice - This one's done, obviously...The Great Migration - This will be when more Garou start to head over to the newly discovered continent. Lots more problems. The start of the "Wyrmcomers" (or is it "Wyrmbringers"? I'll have to look) and the Uktena and Wendigo. Again, I can't think of any special occurance that would deserve its own section, but I might think of something. The French Revolution - I know I had somewhere I was going with this damnit! I will remember! I must remember! This will be where Jeremiah ends his section.Hmm. Those are the only ones that really strike me. I guess I could do something on the start of the United States, but that just doesn't strike me as being very important in the Gaian History. It pales in comparison to the troubles between the Garou and Fera in North American.Tell me if you think of anything else Juju or anyone else who might read this! I'll do one of these on the last fifty years sometime in the future too. I think it'll make it easier to finish off the histories, and I'd feel really accomplished to get that done!
Doot Doot! Stuff! Woohoo! I finished it before my class! All I know is even taking British History is helpful as hell when writing this. Thank you Dr. Seedorf for covering even little bits of European history throughout!( The Fall of Rome and the Rise of CatholicismCollapse )Doot Doot again! A little more condensed than usual, but then I think that's going to be needed with a few more of the bits of history I write. Now I have from the beginning of Jeremiah's history telling to the Unicorn Massacre all together! YaY!
Yes, Juju, something came to my mind while I was on the plane to Denver and I worked on it a little bit here and there throughout.I was thinking over what made the Children of Gaia Children of Gaia. What is it in their Rites of Passage that makes them them, and is there anything beyond the typical stuff for Garou to advance in rank for which they look at each rank.So I came up with something that I thought you might want to look over and tell me what you think. So I present to you, the Cycle of Unicorn. There are five aspects to the cycle. One aspect must be demonstrated by each Gaian during their Rite of Passage and the one before each challange to the next rank or during the challenge. Only when the cycle is complete can one become an elder. It doesn't matter the order, as Unicorn is ever changing and so would never expect her children to fall into an exact order which to follow.Sacrifice - The Gaian must be willing to sacrifice even himself for one of the causes. Unity and Gaia are the most important. Even if most Garou don't remember your name in the sacrifice, you must trust that Unicorn will remember.Obviously, this sacrifice doesn't have to be a sacrifice of life. Another example could be challenging an elder who is going to do the wrong thing and even losing renown for it. Though many Garou might even remember that with scorn, one must trust that Unicorn will remember your name with honor for that, and the sacrifice was renown and face. There are countless ways to go about this one.Questioning - The Gaian must be ready to question stereotypes and hatreds, even of the monarchs. The hatreds and stereotypes between the Garou are some of the greastest rifts among the Garou nation. Obviously, the Gaians need to be ready to stand up against undeserved hatreds to keep them from permanently fracturing the Garou Nation.Protection - The Gaian must be willing to protect those who need and deserve protection. This is perhaps the easiest one for many Garou to fulfill for obvious reasons. Protecting kinfolk, especially, is a big thing for them.Mercy - The Gaian must be willing to show mercy. This is not mercy in the weak sense, but rather the strong sense. Pity the Dancer under your talons, but don't let that stay your claws. Sometimes, the mercy is in returning the lost soul to Gaia.Teach and Remember - The Gaian songs and tales are rarely happy, but they're full of lessions. Everytime they experience a failure, they are one road closer to success. This must be understood and the Gaian needs to demonstrate this by being able to accept failure and trying new ideas. This is, perhaps, the hardest of the paths within the cycle, as accepting one's failures really isn't that easily done.So tell me what you think, Juju!
I'm reposting this for the hell of it, cause it's dived pretty far back on my friends list, and I'm sure it's done the same on Juju's and I want to make sure she gets to see it.Comments from other people are acceptable! Hint hint hint! ::grins:: Juju, Gayle, and I seem to be pretty much alone on this now, and we had had so much backing. If commenting is the only way you guys can help, soooo be it! We'll take whatever we can get.Besides, we are all comment whores! ::cackle::( The Rise and Fall of Shadows in RussiaCollapse )
::just smiles::EDIT: The story has been fixed as much as I can manage for now! I still like it very very much, and it was actually easier to fix than I expected! La!But damnit! It darkened my happy ending!( The Rise and Fall of Shadows in RussiaCollapse )
Doot doot. Hi again! I am back with more history!( Losing the StarsCollapse )
Here it is! The beginning of the Last Fifty Years section of the Gaian history.Usually I don't say much about how I feel about my own writing. But damn, I love the Russian piece. It gave me chills. I hope it does the same to you.( Voice-of-the-Hidden-Swan's Introduction and The Russian GenocideCollapse )
Jujujujujujujujuju! How about we have the Galliards telling the history go down in rank each section? We have five sections, after all, and I'm already making the one telling the last fifty years a Cliath. Jeremiah can be Adren; I have no qualms with that! What do you think?
Doot Doot. I am attacking your livejournals, damnit! I should be doing homework, but no! I'm attacking your livejournals again! But hey, I have my two first tied together histories!( EDIT: Jeremiah's Introduction + The Rise of Rome + Fall of the White HowlersCollapse )
Another part of the History period I'm writing up. Again, not a happy bit of history. There really isn't much of that in the Gaian history, is there?( Section of the Middle Ages eraCollapse )Woo hoo! I posted it in the right place the first time! YaY me!
Quickly, before I go to my next class, Juju. These computers at school have Adobe Acrobat Professional on them! Meaning here at least, I can make PDF files! Hey, it's something to keep in mind, hai?! ::grins::And that is the third time in a row that I have posted an entry to my journal first before getting it right and posting it to the community! Argh!! ::grins::
Here 'tis, as promised to Juju. I actually wrote this about...four months ago. I just wasn't at a computer with Internet access at the time. But now I am with both the story and the time, so here it is. This will go into the history that I'm writing. I think next will be the Dark Ages as a friend of mine got an idea and passed it on while she was thinking on the history of Unicorn herself and how that would come across.( The Fall...Collapse )I really like the ideas behind it. I'll be interested to see what people have to say.
Here's Crystal's take on the tribes since I don't think I posted them here, and even if I did, it wouldn't hurt to post them after Juju's. That way we can have an easier time comparing them and meshing and the like. As juju said when she did Auspices after me, these aren't here to replace Juju's, but rather as Crystal's view points as opposed to Jannock.( Under LJ Cut!!Collapse )There!
Tada! I felt like I had to do *something* and doing something like this has been lurking over my head for a little bit. A friend of mine made the image of the border a little while back, and now I made use out of it!So yes, the main page of the community now has a background and the colors are different. Now, I must go reply to Juju, as I apparently didn't when I thought I did. ::does so::
